Information
Emma R Ward is an artist living in Gracemere in Queensland, Australia. With her charming husband and four beautiful daughters. Emma is a self taught artist with a natural enthusiasm for art in all its forms. Favourite mediums include; oils, gouache, pastels, pencil, ink and charcoal. Emma attended life drawing workshops with Brian Kehoe (Emu Park Artist) in 1999 – 2000 and is currently an exhibiting member of the Mill Gallery in Yeppoon, Queensland.
Currently, Emma is working on a series of oil paintings known affectionately as the ‘wispy ladies’, intimate portraits of feminine figures, painted on collaged backgrounds of vintage papers, such as, sheet music, old books and sewing paper patterns, they ‘inherit’ a certain personality even before their images are painted on the canvas. These figures tend to evoke an emotional response and are instantly recognisable by their absence of faces. In her current series of work, Emma strives to achieve “maximum detail, with minimum brushstroke. Faces are irrelevant, beauty comes from within”
